BRING ON TOMORROW
You can struggle your way into your future or you can choose to have fun.

MEET NANCY MASON, LEAVING FOOTPRINTS FROM KOKOMO TO KALAMAZOO.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Nancy Mason on Monday, November 2nd, 2015. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)

Originally from Kokomo, Indiana, Nancy met her future husband in the fourth grade. She graduated from Purdue University and her husband went on to obtain advanced degrees as a microbiologist. Employed by Upjohn, they lived in Portage and Lawton, where they raised four daughters. Having moved to The Fountains together in 2011, Nancy faced a new chapter when she was widowed two years later after nearly 60 years of marriage. She says her Fountains “family” was “such a comfort” during that difficult time. Today Nancy is the chair of the Spiritual Life Committee and you can usually find her playing cards, antiquing, attending the theater or sharing a meal with friends.

MAKE TODAY THE DAY
People get very good at resisting change, especially when it is age related. However, embracing change with a plan is a wise choice for health and well-being. For example, when routine chores like shopping, cooking, driving, home and yard maintenance become a downright drag, you can choose to replace those daily struggles with a fun-filled, worry-free life with friends, in one swift move. Moving to the right retirement community can make an enormous difference in your day-to-day enjoyment of life as well as your health. The only questions are when and where? It takes time and exploration to find just the right fit. If you haven’t started this important process, why not begin today? “My advice is to not wait too long before making your decision that could bring you much enjoyment in your senior years.” – Nancy Mason

SURPRISE DISCOVERY
Preparing to sell their home on ten acres in Lawton, Nancy and her husband hadn’t even considered retirement community living. Eager to give up yard work and hauling laundry up the basement steps, they had already placed a deposit on an apartment. That’s when they received an invitation to visit an area retirement community. That initial visit hooked them on the concept of service-enhanced living. Further exploring their options, they found their perfect match. “I am just so happy. I have made so many friends and I’ve been very active here in different things and it’s just a wonderful place for me.” – Nancy Mason

DON’T PUT LIFE ON HOLD
Besides enjoying her Fountains fun, Nancy maintains all her old ties, attends her grandchildren’s games and even hosted 40 relatives for Thanksgiving last year. “My advice to people is not to wait too long before they make that decision because I wish we had come in sooner. I would have had more time with my husband, you know, at a better time in life to enjoy everything that we could do here.” – Nancy Mason
