Time is precious. Retirement community living gives you more time to do exactly as you please.
“Yes, neither one of us like not being busy. We have the option to do it because we live here. We come and go as we please and have no outside responsibilities.” – Ed and Marci Muller, residents of The Fountains at Bronson
MEET ED AND MARCI MULLER, IF YOU CAN CATCH THEM!
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. (All quotes contained in this post are excerpts from an interview conducted with Ed and Marci Muller on Thursday, July 30th, 2015. To read the full, un-edited transcript, please click here.)
Six years ago, Ed and Marci Muller moved out of their large four-bedroom condo. They moved intentionally while they were still healthy and active
enough to fully enjoy The Fountains together, which they do. They love going to symphonies and plays. They sing in the church choir and volunteer at Second Impressions, a non-profit thrift shop they created to benefit the Christian school. Last year alone, they raised a half million dollars! Marci also enjoys knitting, crocheting and making things for their 12 grandkids. She takes pride in baking for the entire family – all 33 of them – when they come to spend holidays like Thanksgiving and Christmas at The Fountains. They come from as far as Grand Rapids and Chicago.
WAITING IS THE PROBLEM
Some people will never get to enjoy life as Marci and Ed Muller do. It’s not that they can’t afford it or that they don’t think they’ll enjoy it. It’s that they’ll simply wait too long to act. What are people waiting for? While they wait, sometimes a health problem or worse could arise. When it comes to enjoying life, now is the time, when you can most enjoy it. Waiting is not the solution, it’s the problem. Take it from Marci and Ed. “Well, we didn’t want to wait until one of us had a problem because Marci always said, ‘You know if we go there together, we can enjoy it and then if something happens to one of us and the other person is already there, they don’t have to wait and move there alone.’” – Ed Muller
When they got serious about planning their best future, Ed’s sister was their role model. She already lived at The Fountains and they had visited her
quite often. Having a feel for the lifestyle made their decision a snap. They looked at two other large retirement communities before choosing
The Fountains. “We thought that the dinners were better because of the large nice dining room. The grounds were beautiful, underground parking… independent living and the apartment that we happened to want came open and we liked that too so we thought, ‘Well, maybe we should think about moving there now before it gets to the point where we can’t.’” – Ed Muller
EASY AS BLUEBERRY PIE
Without outside responsibilities of a large home and yard to tie them down, Ed and Marci are free to do as they please and are as active as they want to be. “We just got back from picking up blueberries so we can give some of those to our kids…. We are traveling to Iowa for the weekend too so we try not to sit still. It’s so enjoyable and we get to know people here and become friends with them so it’s a good experience all the way around.” – Ed Muller
