If you want your retirement years to be the best they can be, start planning today.
“…several years ago we realized that a retirement community might be something we should truly consider. We’ve been working on and off with The Fountains for about five years.” – Bob Windsor, resident of The Fountains at Bronson Place
MEET BOB AND NANCY WINDSOR, A HAPPY COUPLE ACTIVELY ENJOYING THEIR RETIREMENT YEARS AT THE FOUNTAINS AT BRONSON PLACE.
You can learn a lot from someone who has been in your shoes. Their honest insight can help you navigate your way to the place that’s right for you, regardless of which community you choose. Bob owned a retail camera and electronics business for 30 years but music and travel are passions he and Nancy share. They appreciate the convenience of underground parking at The Fountains, their home since last December, and they particularly enjoy the freedom to come and go easily, whether they’re off to Cabo, church or the Chicago Symphony. With their new neighbors and friends, they enjoy participating in group breakfasts, happy hours, prime rib dinners and educational events, to name a few. They have also enjoyed the convenience of hopping on the community bus for outings to restaurants or into Grand Rapids for shopping.
TOGETHER AND HEALTHY
The biggest mistake couples make is waiting for trouble to come knocking before they engage in important conversations about the future. Just like saving money for retirement, it’s never too early to begin planning how to best enjoy those years. “I feel very, very fortunate that we’ve come to this agreement together but I’ll say Bob led the way and it took me a while to catch up with this concept of yes we should be in a senior community. But once, as we said, we learned from dear friends what can happen, we did not want it to happen to us. So we started looking and doing homework and it’s paid off. But we did hear many, many, many people say, ‘Do it while you’re together. Make the transition while you’re together. Make a transition while you’re healthy.’” – Nancy Windsor
Bob and Nancy had watched too many friends make the mistake of waiting too long to move to a retirement community, so they got a head start and planned their move very carefully. “…we did examine very carefully, as carefully as we could, four properties and we came back to The Fountains each time. Reputation was very important to us and through the period of time we were able to talk with various people that lived here and there was never a negative remark about whether they liked it…” – Bob Windsor
LIFE ON YOUR OWN TERMS
To help prepare for their move, Bob and Nancy attended a home-selling seminar at The Fountains and heeded the advice they gleaned. Staging their Battle Creek condo helped them sell quickly and for top dollar. Within two months of moving in, they were already enjoying the company of good friends. Bob and Nancy emphasize that they didn’t need to move to a retirement community. They wanted to. Now they don’t hesitate advising others to do the same. “…make the transition before you really have to. We did this on our terms…” – Nancy Windsor
